National Half Marathon titles for Carney, O'Neill

Carney's time of 1:02:21 earned him his first USA championship win while O'Neill also won her first national title in 1:11:57. The men's and women's championships were hosted for the second consecutive year by the Aramco Houston Half Marathon.

Though the 36th annual event started under ideal conditions with clear skies and a temperature of 48 degrees, the leaders passed the first mile in a relaxed 5:05 before Carney, Jason Lehmkuhle, and Ryan Kirkpatrick took charge of the field, leading the field through the second mile in 4:33.

The trio gradually extended a lead over the chase pack that included two-time champion Dan Browne and Steve Sundell.

Novacta Receives 3.5 Million Pounds Strategic Translation Award From ...

Novacta Biosystems, a UK-based anti-infective therapeutics company, announces that the Wellcome Trust, the UK's largest medical research charity, has awarded it £3.5 million as part of the Trust's Strategic Translational Award programme. Novacta will use the award to progress development of a drug which, it is hoped, will help combat hospital-based Clostridium difficile (C.difficile) infections.

C. Difficile infections (CDIs) are a growing and serious problem and have, for example, been associated with twice as many deaths in UK hospitals last year as MRSA. Cases of C.difficile infections, which occur in the lower digestive tract, rose by 22 per cent in the past year and affected more than 15,500 people over 65 in the first quarter of 2007. New anti-infective drugs are needed to target C.difficile without depleting other beneficial bacteria in the gut.

The life and Times of Marie Benoit

He is forever helpful and kind and long-suffering and drops everything to come to my aid. And yes, sometimes he performs minor miracles as well.

My windscreen had to be changed this time round. It had a small crack which, ironically enough, was not inflicted by me but by another mechanics shop years ago. I did not realise that they had dropped a spanner or whatever on it and cracked it until days later. I am hardly the sort to spit and polish my car and look at it with love every morning. As long as it functions I am happy. So, I went to one of those car people down from the office and he said that it would cost me Lm35 for the windscreen to be fixed. I would have to purchase a windscreen as well. Now my old Fiat has an old-type windscreen and not the new and apparently more complicated variety.
