Gadgets Microsoft Insider: Xbox 360 Team Knowingly Launched Faulty ...

During the previous generation, Microsoft attributed much of PlayStation 2's lead over the Xbox to its earlier arrival on the market. Microsoft was determined to beat Sony to the punch for the next generation, as the source explained, "MS was so focused on beating Sony this cycle that the 360 was rushed to market when all indications were that it had serious flaws. The design [quality] testing was insufficient and incomplete when the product was released to production. The manufacturing test equipment had major gaps in test coverage and wasn't reliable or repeatable. Manufacturing processes at [all] levels of suppliers were immature and not in control. Initial end to end yields were in the mid 30%. Low yields always indicate serious design and manufacturing defects.

"Management chose to continue to ship anyways, and keep the lines running while trying to solve problems and bring the yields up.

You have a problem with China being Communist? You're a bit late: The US deals with, and recognizes, China. So does Australia and New Zealand.

So you think the IG is a "communist military junta"? Were you just born stupid or have you been taking special education lessons to sharpen your dull wit? I think you should quit while you are slightly ahead: calm down, take a deep breath, reach for yr meds, gulp them down with some Fiji water.

Anger at university principals’£142,000 pay raise

University principals in Scotland have been awarded salary increases of more than twice the rate of inflation despite the tight financial climate facing the sector.

A survey by The Herald reveals that in 2006-07 university principals received an average salary of £162,000, a rise of 5.2% on the previous year. The increase represents an additional £142,000 taken out of the sector's annual budget.

The highest paid principals are Professor Duncan Rice, from Aberdeen University, and Professor Timothy O'Shea, from Edinburgh University, who get paid £209,000. Sir Alan Langlands, from Dundee, is paid £206,000.

Lecturers' representatives have criticised the rises, following a 3.5% deal for academic staff.

Brian Roberts could put Cubs over the top

One of them is one of the all-time great liars.

Baseball spring training camps open this month and some big-name free agents are jobless and might have to swallow some pride to prolong their careers and sign for much less than they're accustomed to. They include Barry Bonds, Armando Benitez, Mike Piazza, Kenny Lofton, Shannon Stewart, Livan Hernandez, Sammy Sosa, Bartolo Colon, Shawn Green, Corey Patterson and Tony Clark.

If they can't find jobs, Bonds, Sosa, perhaps Clemens and Piazza all would be on the 2013 Hall of Fame ballot. It would be a very impressive group if they all were "clean."

But Piazza is the only one who hasn't been accused of using performance-enhancing drugs.

Billionaire Rochester sportsman Tom Golisano over the weekend reiterated that he's prepared to do what he can to keep the Buffalo Bills in western New York.

A new magazine is devoted to cosmetic surgery. NewBeauty promises "the latest advances in plastic surgery, dermatology and cosmetic dentistry," plus "profiles of leading plastic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and cosmetic dentists." The editorial director promises "the ultimate guide to breast enhancement" and "everything you need to know about lasers and injectables." Critique: Great, more self-hatred of the natural human form. Defense: Your lips say no, but your eyes say yes.

Congress is moving to restrict cold medicine because an ingredient can be used to make methamphetamine. Ten Democratic and seven Republican senators have signed on to S. 103, the Combat Meth Act. Summary by sponsor Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.): "The most effective thing we can do to make meth harder to manufacture is to put cold medicine behind the counter at pharmacies and require purchasers to sign for it and show photo ID." Implication: The line between licit and illicit drugs is blurring.
