Hyaluronic Acid Stimulates Collagen Production

Injections with "dermal fillers" containing hyaluronic acid appear to stimulate production of collagen, a primary protein in the skin. This means that dermal fillers may actually restore the structure of sun-damaged skin, according to an article in the February issue of Archives of Dermatology. Injectable skin fillers have become increasingly popular for correcting the lines and wrinkles associated with aging, as well as acne scars and other skin conditions. Hyaluronic acid, a compound that occurs naturally in the skin and connective tissue, is among the most widely used fillers in the United States. Its molecules bind to water in the skin, hydrating and firming its structure, and the loss of hyaluronic acid with aging is associated with skin dehydration and wrinkling. .

French officials visit to work on Cornbleet case

A team of French officials on Monday arrived in Chicago to begin its own investigation into the murder of a well-known Chicago dermatologist.

The group of judges, prosecutors and police officers will pore over evidence collected by Chicago investigators to determine whether Hans Peterson should be prosecuted for the murder of Dr. David Cornbleet, a 64-year-old dermatologist from Lincolnwood and father of Naperville resident Jon Cornbleet.

Alternative Candy Bars Fight For Taste Buds

The peanut butter flavor is not well-defined, the crunch is muted and the chocolate is indifferent at best in flavor and very waxy. Grade: C.

Hershey's Take 5: 210 calories, 11 grams fat, 0 mg cholesterol, 180 mg sodium, 25 grams carbs

Most candy fans will tell you that the salty-sweet contrast is one of their favorite tastes. At first, the Take 5 bar looks like a kitchen chemistry project some of those candy eaters might undertake while on a chocolate-covered pretzel jag. There's a lot going on here: peanut butter, pretzels, caramel and toasted peanuts, all wrapped in chocolate.

And it works. All the flavors play well together, but they all manage to retain their identities nicely. This is a really great candy fix, and surprisingly innovative coming from one of the big names in the business.

Smoking ban brings mixed opinions in Carroll

Maggie's has been fighting this kind of ban for 10 years, he said. But Scott Beck, owner of E W Beck's Pub in Sykesville, said the ban will bring in new business."I think on the short term it may negatively affect us, but in the long term, it will probably be positive," said Beck, who anticipates the ban may make his restaurant more family friendly and attract many of the area's young residents."We have people that won't come out because it's too smoky," he said.Beck said he will try his best to accommodate the smoking clientele. Before the ban goes into effect, a door that will access an outdoor patio will be added to the restaurant. The plan is to eventually have the patio covered and heated, Beck said."I think some of the bar business might decline, but people don't come to a bar or restaurant to smoke.

Former Miss Virginia: Everyone has 'body drama'

It's hard to believe that a former Miss Virginia might have had body image problems, but Martinsville native Nancy Redd, Miss Virginia of 2003, did when she was a teenager. It was out of those insecurities that she has just published a book for adolescent girls titled "BODY DRAMA" with frank answers to embarrassing questions and real, often explicit, pictures of women's bodies and problems with their bodies. "My own body gave me the idea for the book," Redd said last week. "In middle and high school, I'd often sneak into the health section of the bookstore or library and frantically flip through the dozens of puberty and body books on the shelves, ignoring the paragraphs of clinical text, searching urgently for photographic evidence that I was not a weird girl - proof by comparison, if you will.

Lemming's Mailbag - Where Will They Go?

Recruiting is an entirely different world than it's ever been before.

What do you think of Florida getting three Top 100s the past few weeks (William Green, Omar Hunter, and Ramon Buchanan)? - Adam (Gainesville, Fla.)

The Florida staff does a great job, but it really comes down to Urban Meyer. He's relentless, aggressive, persistent and smart. They're still in the hunt for No. 3-ranked Julio Jones as well. Florida is making its late push toward potentially being the No. 1 class in the country. Green, Hunter and Buchanan are all big-time gets this late in the game. And it's still not over.

How good is this 2009 QB Matt Barkley that committed to USC? I saw he's considered the early No. 1-ranked junior. Is he as good as Jimmy Clausen was at that stage? - Johnny (Reseda, Calif.)

He's bigger than Clausen was, but they're two different players.
